Mathematics Department
The Mathematics Department at Summit Saturday School is headed by an outstanding mathematician and his team of math specialists. Each tutor has considerable experience in getting their pupils to achieve high standards across the ability range.
Key Stage 2 Mathematics
Mathematics is taught within small groups, enabling teachers to focus on their pupils and their specific needs. We have a range of activities within the lesson focusing on the numeracy curriculum.
Weekly homework is set to extend the work covered together in class and to reinforce the skills the pupils are learning. Regular testing enables us to measure pupil progress and to identify where their needs lie, thus raising achievement levels. Regular liaison with parents is also encouraged so that teachers can report on pupil’s progress.
Key Stage 3 Mathematics
Mathematics is taught at this level in accordance with the National Curriculum. This ensures that the topics being taught are relevant to the requirements of the National Curriculum. The curriculum is flexible and gives all pupils the opportunity to excel.
Our pupils regularly achieve levels 5 and higher in SATs examinations.
GCSE Mathematics
Our reputation attracts students from all over London as our students have consistently achieved A* - C grades in GCSE Higher Tier Mathematics and GCSE Intermediate Tier Mathematics examinations. Students benefit from high quality teaching and well-organized courses. Most of the teachers are themselves examiners for OCR, AQA or Edexcel examination boards.
Our smallest class has 4 students; we believe this is certainly unique among similar schools. We value the tremendous opportunities that this way of working offers pupils and teachers. It enables lively, stimulating and highly interactive classes in which everyone is engaged and no one is left trailing behind. It gives teachers the flexibility to differentiate and to adapt one’s teaching and pace to suit the needs of every pupil in the class. In addition, students have a considerable amount of examination practice allowing them to grow in confidence before sitting their examinations. Homework is a priority and is used to monitor the performance and improvement of each student.
AS/A2 Mathematics
Individual or small group teaching is available for both AS and A2 Mathematics modules.
As an approved examination centre for OCR, Edexcel and AQA, it is possible for students to sit GCSE, AS and A2 examinations here at Summit Saturday School or retake GCSE or A Level Mathematics examinations if they require higher grades.
